Star Ratings in Tableau

I’ve been wanting a star rating chart in Tableau for a while for my Netflix Instant Film Picker. I started out trying to use the Unicode star (★), but that would only provide whole numbers of stars with no resolution in between (if only there was a half star in Unicode…). Instead I resorted to custom shapes and star positioning calculations on a scatter plot. This provides 1/4 star resolution. Here are the custom star shape files – unzip these in a new directory your shapes directory.  See the workbook below for the calculations.
